Have a Penguin in Your Bath-Tub

×

Yes, a penguin in your bathtub! And we're not plugging for a well-known producer of paper-backed books, or making suggestions to Sir Edmund Hillary. We're just proposing that if you are looking for a quaint pet, one which will captivate your heart with his quaint ways, which will be as much at home in the bathroom as in the living room, and which is guaranteed to give you a good laugh at least once a day, then a penguin is the bird for you.
Ask Mrs Leah West, of Wainui Beach. She knows all about it, for this is her penguin swimming around in her bathtub.

Edmund, as Mrs West has christened her new pet, is a very young penguin. He was found on the beach at Makarori. Reports that penguins have been run over by cars on Tolaga Bay roads suggest that they are fairly plentiful in these parts at present. They live on a fish diet. Mrs West once before raised one to maturity, white waistcoat and all. If Edmund reaches this status, he will make a fine subject for a picture in a later "Photo News".

Edmund probably thinks porcelain on bath looks like ice.

That's all right, he says. I'll pose for my own picture, thank you.

Well, cheerio — I must be off for another swim in the bath.
