The interruption in rail traffic caused by the slip at Waikokopu placed a big additional load on the road service to Nuhaka and also on the air services in and out of Gisborne.
Here a whole planeload of refrigerators is being unloaded at Darton Field for a local refrigeration firm. The aircraft brought 22 of these in one load.

First Piper commercial plane to make its headquarters at Gisborne is this P.18-A belonging to Cookson Superspread Ltd. (formerly Aerial Superspread Ltd.). Its 150 h.p. engine gives it a top speed of 120 mph, and it can carry 1010 lbs cargo.

Senior harriers seen here in Ormond Rd. are competing in a harriers' rally held recently when visiting runners were present from a number of other North Island centres.

The senior race was won by Gisborne's Alan Parkinson, who is running particularly well this season. In the junior race Martin du Fresne (Waipukurau) set a new course record.
