Mr R. H. T. Newick, who has been the headmaster of Apia Primary School, Western Samoa, since 1950. Before leaving for Samoa he was first assistant of the Gisborne Intermediate School. He is seen here with his typist in his office.

Sub-Lieutenant L. R. Merton, R.N.Z.N., who recently flew to England for further studies at Greenwich College. He is the second son of Mrs E. V. Ellis, 115 Ormond Road, Gisborne.

Miss I. Banks, who has been nursing on the East Coast for the past 30 years, and who is retiring, photographed at the Health Camp recently with two of the children resident there. Miss Banks, who has been at Te Araroa for the past 19 years, could fill a book with her experiences as a medical "jack of all trades" in this far-flung corner of New Zealand.
