The Gisborne Photo News

Cover Picture

Spring is "just around the corner" — if it hasn't already arrived by the time this "Photo News" is being read. Everywhere, the hills and the flats, green with spring growth, are dotted with lambs, the most important annual harvest of the sheepfarmer. Our cover picture shows little Susan Williams, daughter of Mr & Mrs H. B. Williams, jnr., of Ohai, across the bay from Turihaua, holding a poker-faced stud Southdown lamb.

The sheep industry is undoubtedly the most important single factor in the continuing prosperity of Gisborne and the East Coast, and the close alliance of town and country in this respect is emphasised by this picture of lambs on hill country, not miles out in the country, but right in Gisborne city. Picture was taken on Mr A. J. Humphrey's farm at Nob-hill, Wainui Road, which is intersected by the city boundary.
