Planting An Idea

The idea of Arbor Day started to grow in Nebraska, U.S.A., in 1872. From that small beginning has emerged the custom which is now part of the N. Z. way of life.

Teachers of Te Hapara and other Gisborne schools are playing their part in cultivating the Arbor Day idea in young minds.

Extensive planting at Te Hapara School this month was linked with special projects about trees.

Old pines which had become untidy were replaced by over 80 more suitable trees.

Under the supervision of the city gardener, Mr T. R. Andrew, teachers and children joined in the ceremony.
