Poverty Bay's 5000

A milestone in Poverty Bay representative rugby was reached when the local team came surging back in the second half of the final game of the season. In crushing Marlborough by 21 points to 9 the Poverty Bay players also took the first class points total past the 5000 mark since the union was started. Mike Parkinson's try took the total to 5000 and Alastair Swann's conversion clinched the deal with the two extra points.
