Pictures From The Past

From Miss Enid Wilson, Ormond Road, come these two pictures of the 1948 flood at Te Karaka.


When the Nisbett house and its occupants were marooned by the waters a dramatic rescue was effected by neighbours and friends using rafts made from empty oil drums.


One lone black dog only is game enough to cross the Kanakanaia Bridge where the flood gauge measured a rise of 31 feet!
