Top Drivers
The top drivers of the most successful season yet were presented with their trophies at the Awapuni Speedway Club's cabaret and prize-giving on July 19. Both saloon and stock car champions had good wins over their opponents, scoring sufficient points to make them both comfortable winners.
Champion saloon car driver Colin Topp with his Mini Cooper powered with a Cooper S motor. He won the Roberts Cup, plus a welding set from Industrial Gases Ltd, for most feature race points, and the Endeavour Lodge Motel Cup for most points for the season. This is the third time Colin Topp has taken the champion saloon car title. At right is N.Z.I.G. manager Ken Stoneman.
