Long Service
Two members of the Gisborne Refrigerating Company staff were honoured for their long service at a function held in the Power Board Rooms on the eve of their retirement. Mr Charlie Read (47 years service) retired as foreman of the "Rendering Department", while Mr Cyril Tune (38 years service) retired as foreman fitter.

Champion stock car driver Harold Ingram with his 221 Ford Mustang V8. He won the Rothman's Cup for most feature points, the Awapuni Speedway Trophy for most points won by a local stock car driver, and was also named Club Man of the Year.
