Precious Years

A number of warm and glowing wedding anniversaries have been celebrated in Gisborne during the past few months. Of the four featured here one is a diamond anniversary while the other three are all golden weddings.

The Diamond.

Mr and Mrs Tom Kane, Argyll Street, are the celebrants of the 60th wedding anniversary. Both Mr and Mrs Kane were born in Scotland and, after spending their earlier days there emigrated to Gisborne via Wellington, with their six sons, in 1926. After working for the Harbour Board for a short time Mr Kane joined the Gisborne Borough Council staff and retired from there after 38 years service. Two more children were added to the family after coming to Gisborne where Mr and Mrs Kane have lived in their present home in Argyll Street since 1928. Mrs Kane's interests have been her family, home, garden, local theatre, crochet and knitting. Mr Kane's outside interests have been sporting ones, namely boxing, horses and soccer.
