Exciting Boxing Bouts

A particular feature of the Gisborne Boxing Association's programme for 1975 was the tournament held in the Y.M.C.A. Stadium on June 22. Some exciting and provocative bouts were fought with fourteen fights being staged in all. Boxers from the Gisborne area, as well as Wairoa, Wellington and Auckland, were on hand to take part in the tournament.

The last fight on the programme, between George Stankovich of Auckland and K. August of Wellington, provided some class boxing with Stankovich (left) gaining the decision in the second round with a TKO.

Tawhare Tuhou of Patutahi (left) was well matched against Kevin Kennedy of Auckland. Tuhou won the bout and was actually announced the most scientific boxer at the end of the tournament.
