Pot Pourri

Of Lemons...

And Oranges...

And A Prolific Cactus...

It must be a case of adaption as there seem to be a number of cactus plants that do very well in this area. We must admit though that this one must have about the most flowers on it that we have ever seen around here.

This most unusually shaped fruit was found by Jack Penny on the lemon tree in his garden at 6 Parau Street. We have seen some oddly shaped lemons in our time but this would be just about the rarest! It actually looks like some kind of fancy candlestick — complete with handle.

And on Bill McCallion's orange tree at his place in Gladstone Road was this extra large bunch of oranges — 21 in fact! We know that Gisborne is a great place for growing oranges but have never seen so many growing this close together before.

These plants, one of which is 20 feet high, are growing in the garden of Mrs M. Gowland at Manutuke. They were planted by son Ray about 10 years ago.

A closer look reveals the beautiful shape of the actual cactus flowers.
