Legend And Craft

In addition to the piupiu-making weekend held at the Whakato Marae recently (see pages 8 & 9), several hours were spent exploring the art of weaving with flax. Kits, head bands and mats were some of the articles made during that time.

In the field of legend Mrs Ene Hawkins has these three little woven flax containers which represent the baskets of knowledge. They come from the Supreme God lo, The first is Tuari (the European equivalent of Philosophy and Theology), Tuatea (Psychology and History), and Aronui (Technology).
