The Big Chop

A good number of axemen competed in the first chopping carnival held in Tolaga Bay for some time. A strong wind put the choppers on their mettle and this brought forth a high degree of accuracy. Ten chops were staged and during the day Doug Herbison made two attempts to recapture the New Zealand 11" standing chop record. He put in two grand efforts and failed only marginally.
