Cutting Off

The quarterhorse is well known in Australia and the U.S.A., where it is used extensively in stock work, and in particular for cutting off (or separating if you like) a single beast from the rest of a mob of cattle. The quarterhorse is especially bred for the job and exceptionally agile, particularly in changing direction. An eight-year-old stallion, valued at $45,000 and originally from the U.S.A., has been imported from Australia by Rotorua owner and studmaster Paul Bailey. Horse and owner gave a demonstration of their combined prowess on Mr Fred Bryson's property at Patutahi before a very interested crowd recently. These pictures show just part of the range of the combination's ability.
