Children Saved

The Gisborne Save The Children Committee staged a very successful “Conversazione” at Ulverstone on August 16. A large crowd attended the social function where delicious food was served. A parade of exotic and expensive jewelled treasures from Hammon Jewellers was contrasted rather sharply by Martin Lowe when he paraded as a representative of the 140,000 children helped by Save The Children. He carried a bowl of rice — a real treasure for those in much less fortunate circumstances. The draw of the raffle for the painting of “Young Nick's Head” (worth $500 and donated by artist Peter Williams) took place at the function.
