Through To Semi-Finals
A 3-2 win against Stop Out (Wellington) in the second round, and then a win, also 3-2, over Eastern Suburbs (Auckland), have taken Gisborne City into the semi-finals for the Chatham Cup. They play Wellington Diamond United this Saturday, August 17, but after a 3-0 defeat by the same team on August 10 in the National League series, they look to have a stiff game ahead of them.
Against Stop Out, Jim Nicholls' bullet-like shot draws the teams level.
Les Todd, under pressure from two Stop Out strikers makes sure he gets his head to the ball first.
Against Eastern Suburbs, City's Keith Bowley's desperate dive just fails to stop Suburbs going into a 1-0 lead from this penalty.
Also against Suburbs, Gary Jenkins (10) soars to challenge Suburbs 'keeper Praven Jeram. Moments later a defender handles the loose ball and Struthers makes it 3-2 from the penalty spot...
From right, an anxious Keith Bowley (City 'keeper) watches as Les Todd heads the ball away strongly, Terry Parkin sways gracefully out of the way, and a Suburbs striker flies through in spectacular fashion.
