The Golden Year Of Gardening

The Golden Jubilee of the Poverty Bay Horticultural Society is being celebrated this year. The society was founded fifty years ago and to mark the occasion a special function was held in conjunction with the annual general meeting at Ulverstone on June 29. After the meeting a toast was proposed by the patron, Mayor Harry Barker, then afternoon tea was enjoyed. The daytime function allowed many of the older members of the society to be present for the function. Due to the change in construction of the War Memorial Hall the society will hold its shows in the Kaiti Memorial Hall, in Wainui Road, in future. Towards the end of September a garden competition will also be held in conjunction with this jubilee year. All members present were invited to sign the minute book to mark the occasion
