Sportsmen of the Year
The Poverty Bay Polo team, winners of the Savile Cup (the top New Zealand polo trophy) and several other trophies at top level, was this year awarded the Sportsman of the Year Trophy. The presentation took place at the 1974 Sportsman of the Year Dinner organised in aid of the Crippled Children Society. Close on 400 sportsmen attended the bright and breezy function at which the guest speakers were Dick Tayler, Grahame Thorne and Ron Scott.
