The Grape, the Wine and the Tradition

The grapes grow to perfection on the Gisborne flats, the wines are improving all the time, and now tradition is making its presence felt. At the Waihirere Winery, Ormond, one of the upper storeys is being set up as a winery museum and this is expected to be complete in about six months. It will contain much of the original equipment used by the late Friedrick Wohnsiedler, who founded the winery in 1921. Old presses, crushing machines, casks and bottling-equipment are among the different items on display. Any other wine making equipment suitable for the museum would also be welcomed by the company for display purposes.
