9 Stone to Hongara

Francis Hongara of the Railways Gym took the 9 stone title at the New Zealand Amateur Boxing Championships held at Greymouth recently. Gary Le Bas of the City Gym also did well, winning his way into the final of the 6st 1 lb division. The team which travelled down South for the championships was, from left, in front, Darryl Lloyd, Katene Aupouri and Gary Le Bas (City Gym), and Kevin Williams and Edward Slade (Tokomaru Bay). At back are Mr Mal Watt (trainer), John McClutchie (City), Leo Harrison (Te Puia), Francis Hongara, Richard Prendergast (City), George Williams (Tokomaru Bay) and Mr Dan O'Connell (manager).
