Pictures from the Past

From Mrs S. J. Orr, 24 Oxford Street, we have two more pix from the past, this time of a couple of different scenes of the wreck of the "Star Of Canada." This ship grounded at Kaiti Beach in 1912. The bridge section of the ship was removed and relocated as a residence on the corner of Childers Road and Cobden Street where it can still be seen.

This other pic, also from Mrs Orr, was taken around 1910 by the look of it. It shows Gladstone Road, looking east from Peel Street. The Douglas brothers' Strand Private Hotel at left is about where the Odeon is now while, at right, Bryan's Pharmacy occupies the original Hannah's shoe shop.
