Mr George Johnston, Waipaoa, who is pictured at one of his daffodil beds, won the champion bloom award at this year's Daffodil Show. As well as winning the top award, Mr Johnston took three premier bloom prizes and ten firsts in other classes. Mr Johnston then went on to the more recent North Island championship show, in Hamilton, where he took the Corrigan cup for six seedlings (amateur), and also four seconds in open classes. A very keen grower, Mr Johnston hybridizes and raises many of his own blooms.
