Pole Presented

The magnificently carved Maori Pole was officially presented to the city at a brief ceremony outside the P.R.O. building, in Grey Street, where the pole has been ideally sited. The carvings trace the genealogy of Maori and Pakeha history, from the coming of Maui to the first landing on the moon. The pole is a commemoration of the Cook Bi-Centenary and a gift of the Maori people to Gisborne.
