The Te Hapara Youth Group took part in a "Starve-In," recently. Members were sponsored and went without anything to eat from Friday night until Sunday morning. They raised $110 towards the education of the student they are sponsoring in Turkey, through the United Nations. Taking part were, from left, in front, Warwick Wilsher, "Butch" Atkins, Ross Candy, Wendy Ballantyne, Grant Wilsher and Sue Ballantyne. At back, Alison Niven, Lyn Nyenhuis, Diedre Patterson, Wendy Nyenhuis, Dan Humphries, Bruce Wallen and Kay Worsnop.

With three of the members of his sponsoring staff, National Bank manager Vic Okeby steps onto the scales to observe his weight, before entering the Slim-A-Thon contest. The I.H.C. Society is organising this sponsored contest to raise funds for the local branch, and is from July 1 until August 31. Entrants in the contest, who guarantee to lose weight at so much per pound, over any given period during the two months of the contest, can obtain entry forms and take their weight checks at any chemist. There are good prizes to be won by losers of the most weight. Watching Mr Okeby making his observation are, from left, National Bank staff members Gaynor Donaldson, Elizabeth Morse and Nola Jacobson.
