Pictures From The Past

This view across the water, at the conjunction of the Waimata, Taru-heru and Turanganui Rivers, shows the old Post Office in its early days. A steam barge plies the river and the old band rotunda is shown at right.

A closer view of the band rotunda. Note the young Norfolk Pine on this side of the rotunda, and also the ornate iron lace-work on the bandstand itself.

Another view over the water, this time showing the old Peel Street Bridge, over the Taruheru River. The old Common, Shelton & Co. building can be seen quite clearly at the end of the bridge.
