Making The Dust Fly

For the past two years, the Gisborne Car Club's annual hill climbing contest at Holden's Hill, a few miles from the city, has been held on damp-surface roads, but this year, the day was hot and the road was bone-dry. Result: the speeding cars whipped up spectacular clouds of dust which trailed behind like gritty vapour trails. From the spectators' point of view, the event was made much more interesting by the introduction of a sound system, over which the club secretary, Mr Robinson, commented as each entrant made his run.
