After 36½ years with the faults department at the Poverty Bay Electric Power Board, Mr Norm Beattie is taking up the position as lines inspector. He threw a farewell party for members of the faults staff (past and present) before taking up his new position, and is pictured here with the group. Pictured finishing off his last construction job is Gisborne builder Mr A. L. W. Martin, where he is putting in the concrete edging round the new A. A, building on the corner of Palmerston Road and Disraeli Street. Mr Martin is retiring after more than 30 years in the building business.

The P.B. Deerstalkers' No. 2 team scored 499.5 points out of a possible 500.10, to carry off the Gisborne Miniature Rifle Club's mercantile shoot this year. This is the fourth year the handsome three-inch shell trophy has been competed for. The winning team is, from left, Michael Newman, Graham Neshausen, Graeme Newman, Eric Coates and Ray Newman.
