Guides from all over Gisborne gathered to make a trip to Wairoa recently for a field day to train for Camp Craft. They travelled to Wairoa by the Red Bus Service and, prior to take-off, were farewelled by "White Ruff," a friendly collie dog who farewells all Guides who go to Wairoa on the Camp Craft course. Officially saying goodbye to "White Ruff" are Faith Evans (left) and Jenny Potaka.

A large crowd of friends gathered at the St John's Church Hall, Mangapapa, to wish Mrs Ada Bignall, Hospital Road, a very happy day on her 80th birthday recently. After morning tea Mrs Bignall cut the birthday cake and she is pictured here with two of her close friends, Mrs Stella O'Meara (left) and Mrs Dot Owen.

This Waratah, growing in the garden of Mrs M. Barwick, Kelvin Street, is not only unusual in that it is growing remarkably well (they are difficult to grow in New Zealand) but that it also has three extra flowers growing from the one head instead of the usual single flower. It is understandable that the Australians have Waratah festivals when one sees the wildly extravagant red of these beautiful flowers.
