At The First Sign!

At the first sign of good playing weather the croquet buffs are out in force to start their favourite summer sport. The Kaiti and Barry Park Croquet Clubs both started the '71-'72 season recently and the greens were in excellent order for both clubs.

Judith Clarke, incidentally, at the age of 11 years, is now first reserve for the N.Z. Croquet Council's Invitation event. This is for the top eight players in New Zealand, on a handicap of three and over.

In 1965 Judith's mother, Mrs R. A. Clarke, played in this event. In 1966 Judith's brother Richard, at 13 years of age, was runner-up in the event, and in 1967 Judith's father, Mr Rua Clarke, was also runner-up in this same event. So, should Judith make the team, she will be the fourth member of her family to do so, in which case this would be something of a record for any family in any sport.
