. . . were the birds at the Poverty Bay Budgerigar and Cage Bird Society's 38th annual show which was held in the St John Ambulance Hall. Entries were good and the colourful plumage of the birds attracted much attention, particularly if you were not up on the fine points of bird judging.

Mr Jack McCarthy with his buff Yorkshire canary which won eight special awards.

Mr Charlie McGrannachan's yellow border canary won nine special awards.

This green and black budgerigar won a first prize for E. Freemantle of Whakatane.

This tricky little fellow was the best unflighted novice canary.

Ray Saunders (Hastings), formerly of Gisborne, took five special awards with his Indian Ring cockbird.

Mr M. Tyler's red canary won the best non-colour novice.
