The Captain Played Rugby?

Well, not really. Rugby was not "invented" until nearly 100 years after Captain James Cook's time. However, if rugby had been played, or conversely, Cook been alive today, it is a certainty that he would have been a keen rugby follower on his visit to Kiwi land. A more fitting venue, then, could not have been selected than Rugby Park for the official government function, the naval "Retreat", and the fireworks display which will mark some of the more spectacular events of the Cook Bicentenary. These events will all take place at Rugby Park on Thursday, October 9. For other programme details see page 14.
