Colourful Entertainment

People from all parts of the country and a few overseas guests crowded the War Memorial Hall to watch the 18th performance of the Maori Competitions. 742 people contested in all sections of the competitions, and there were 140 guest artists from Auckland and 40 from the North Clyde School, Wairoa.

Mr W. Kerekere, the officer in charge of Maori programmes with N.Z.B.C., Wellington, presented each team with recordings of original items made last year by N.Z.B.C. for N.Z. competitors.

Representing the primary team from Wairoa are Adrienne Adsett, Derek Hamlin, and Hirani McGregor.

Joan Blake accepted the recordings on behalf of the Opoutama team.

Mrs Lily Te Uea and Miss Georgina Kingi (Waihirere senior team) proudly hold the Karaitiana Tamararo Memorial Shield for the highest aggregate.
