Of Fruit And Flowers And Things

At the Wilson residence, 36 MacDonald Street, mushrooms have grown in small numbers since October. In this particular lot eight mushrooms grew. Mrs Wilson's nieces, Carol and Julie Doleman of Palmerston North, hold the mushrooms. At top centre three of the mushrooms are seen growing in the garden.

Roderick and Jennifer Schofield, 16 School Road, had many unusually shaped fruit among their strawberry crop this year. There were leaves growing through the middle of some of the berries, others were double and triple and some appeared to be of a reserve shape. Perhaps some mysterious force from outer space is exerting a sinister influence over our gardens.'

From Andrea McFadyen, 761 Childers Road, comes this photo of "Twiggy", a black Labrador. Her penchant is collecting "empties" - which is a good thing to have a penchant for (if you are a dog).

It will be surprising if nearly everyone is not seeing double around town, what with all the double-headed flowers and fruit that have been growing lately. However, cute little Kerrin Stubbs, 3, of 205 Stout Street, makes a charming picture as she studies the formation of this double-headed dahlia from their garden.
