Unsuccessful Challenge

Poverty Bay's challenge for the Ranfurly Shield was unsuccessful at McLean Park, Napier, on August 3. The final score was 21 points to five in favour of Hawke's Bay.

The Poverty Bay forwards were set a tough task against their Hawke's Bay counterparts, while the backs performed well. John Collins's brilliant try in the final minute of the game was the highlight of the! match for Poverty Bay players and supporters.
