Five Years Ago
With the recent visit of the Blackpool it is interesting to note that ten years ago the New Zealand Navy's ocean minesweeper, Stawell, was a caller at the port. Spending her war years in the Pacific theatre, she was presented to New Zealand by the Australian Government and then used as a training ship.
The Riverside Women's Bowling Club commenced the 1957-58 season with the opening of the new bowling pavilion. The new building was the culmination of some years of hard work after turning a veritable wilderness into an attractive bowling centre.
The T. & G. Building was nearing completion and Monk Bros mobile crane is shown placing the flag mast in position.
The British anti-submarine frigate H.M.S. Loch Killisport made a visit to Gisborne, spending two days in port.
