Then And Now

A span of fifty-five years encompasses the two scenes on this page. The top picture was taken in 1910 and shows the elaborate wrought iron balconies, transport by horse and coach, bicycles and boater hats.

The only thing in common with the bottom picture taken a few days ago is that the buildings are the same but have been stripped of their ironmongery. Horsepower has replaced the horse, gleaming automobiles the coach, and, although there are still one or two bikes, the only boaters are now seen on the river or out at sea.
