The Gisborne aerodrome was originally known as "Darton Field", a view of which is taken from the southern approach.

Question: After whom was the aerodrome named and what and when were the offices held by this man.

The answer to last month's question, After whom was Gisborne named? was: The Hon William Gisborne. He was an early New Zealand statesman and government official, coming to this country in 1847 to be private secretary to Lieutenant-Governor Eyre.

From there he held various official posts, including Native Titles Commissioner, Under-secretary of Lands and Under-secretary in the Colonial Secretary's office. He was given a seat in the Legislative Council in 1869 after which he became Colonial Secretary.

Last month's winner was Mrs B. M. Maclean, 34 Cobden Street.
