Up the Kitchen Wall

With Redham Care-Lezz

This month's recipe of the year is b-beaut, fabulous and absolutely wonderful etc., etc., and mumble mumble. Anyway it's for Baked Alaska - no not polar bear. You get a lump of sponge, slap on some fruit, dump on a hunk of ice-scream, cover with this meringue stuff and wang the lot into a very hot oven.

Two hours later...!

Seriously though, here is a beaut desert Gail Robinson whipped up in a jiffy while demonstrating stoves at Christies.

Baked Alaska.

4 Egg Whites

8 Tablespoons Castor Sugar

1 pint ice-cream

1 sponge

1 can of fruit of your choice

Arrange ice-cream on sponge with fruit. Whisk egg whites until very stiff, fold in sugar. Pile or pipe over ice-cream. Brown 3-5 minutes in a very hot oven (475-500F).
