P.O. Site

Sir - I was pleased to see that the City Council had the wisdom at its last meeting to support the decision of Government officials to locate our new Post Office on the present Road Services site in Grey Street, despite a petition by local business and professional men for reconsideration of the old Gladstone Road site. Their argument that this area will continue to be the hub of the business city is hard to justify as it ceased to be this many years ago.

Obvious centre of the city of the future is Grey Street, a generously proportioned thoroughfare leading to possibly the area of greatest development, Waikanae Beach. What better location for the P.O., only 100 yards from the future centre of town, and with ample acreage to provide off-street parking and an attractive setting for a building of this magnitude and importance.
