Three young Gisborne men travelled from Gisborne to Napier recently to take part in their first Gold Star car trial, the Blossom Festival event staged by the Hawkes Bay Car Club. A 12 hour night trial, it attracted 49 entries. Members of the Gisborne Car Club and employees of Holmes Motors, the young fellows are Stephen Clare (owner-driver), Adrian Allen and Ross Harrison (navigators). They covered 400 miles in their 1957 Prefect.

Off on a round-the-world trip with intentions of teaching in London is Mary Kururangi of 2 MacDonald Street. Mary intends crossing the States, and including the Far East in her trip.

Under the guidance of Miss W. O'Halloran, local Queen's Guides made a trip to Napier and Wellington during the school holidays. One of the features of the trip was the visit to Parliament House and a meeting with the Prime Minister. In the photo are Mrs Esme Tombleson, M.P. for Gisborne, Elizabeth Mathew, Susan Richardson, Mr Holyoake, Amanda Shaw, Jocelyn Prentice and Noeline Hamilton.

A large crowd including visitors from Other clubs turned up for the opening of the Riverside Ladies Bowling Club. The patroness, the Mayoress, Mrs H. H. Barker, is seen speaking at the opening ceremony before sending down the first bowl of the season.
