The Karetu (below) has called at Gisborne once previously and the vessel occupies almost the whole length of the No.2 wharf.

The Knight Templar was the first overseas freighter to use the new wharf where 450 tons of mutton was loaded for Japan. The 394ft ship, with a draft of 23 feet, has a gross tonnage of 3971, and experienced no difficulty using the new facilities where loading operations went smoothly and efficiently.

First Officer Brian Andrews was greeted by his father, Murray Andrews, and brothers Stephen and Kevin when the Karetu called in to load cargo for Australia. Brian, who has just announced his engagement to an Auckland girl, will come ashore in six months to sit for his master's certificate.
