To Our Wairoa Readers

The number of our readers in Wairoa appears to be growing just as fast as in Gisborne, and in response to a number of requests, we have completed arrangements for the publication of Wairoa newspictures.

During a visit to Wairoa last month, the Gisborne Hill Billies entertained patients at the Wairoa Public Hospital. Top picture shows them giving an outdoor concert. That not only the patients enjoyed the show may be seen by lower picture of nurses enjoying tale of "Little Red Hooding Ride".

Athol Lister, who was stroke oarsman for the Wairoa crew which won the welter-weight fours at the recent N.Z. rowing championships, is seen here receiving an award from the president of the Wairoa Rowing Club, Mr R. Gasson. In background is Jim Craig, the club captain.

Mr John Woolf, a Wairoa borough councillor and businessman, who has won national esteem as a carnival organiser. He recently organised for the Blenheim Carnival Association an effort which exceeded the target of £10,000 by £2500. He also ran carnival campaigns at Kaikohe (target £6000, actual £8500) and at Futaruru (target £6000, actual £13,500).

Mrs Agnes Smith, who also played a prominent part at the Blenheim Carnival, where she produced the carnival pantomine, "Little Red Riding Hood", which played to packed houses for six nights. She recently produced "Cindrella" at Wairoa.

With banner unfurled and drumsticks flashing, the Boys'Brigade made an impressive spectacle as companies from Gisborne, Wairoa, and southern Hawkes Bay marched down the Marine Parade at Wairoa. Photo was taken as boys were marching to church at conclusion of weekend rally.
