The year is 1942, the month September, the place Gisborne Railway Station. The question: What was the occasion which drew such a large crowd to Grey Street to see a long passenger train, pulled by two steam engines, leave the station?

The answers to last month's questions were: The Star of Canada grounded on Kaiti Beach at midnight, 23rd June, 1912. The prime reason (other than the storm mentioned in the question) was that she could not put to sea when the storm struck because her boilers had been drawn for cleaning and she was thus unable to raise sufficient steam in time.
