The event was staged to raise money for the Intellectually Handicapped Children's Society and great interest was taken, there being 90 entrants in the contest.

A cheque for the £77 was presented by Irwin Openshaw to I.H.C. president Mrs Nora Steed (above left). and pictured with her mother Mrs Raewyn McKinley, 38 Cambridge Terrace (above right), is cute little Lititia McKinley, the winner of the contest.

This, the highest known score for this class of shoot, was scored by Mrs Batcheldor who is a First Class archer and also club secretary

A prominent member of the local A.T.C., Alan was accorded a small gift to wish him well on the trip, the presentation being made by the vice-president of the Gisborne Air Force Association, Mr Keith Tarry, at a recent A.T.C., training night.

In a great effort by all concerned the grand sum of £77 was raised by penny votes in a baby photo contest conducted by Openshaws in their New World supermarket.

An event of some note took place at a Gisborne Archery Club shoot recently when Mrs Dorothy Batcheldor, 131 Ormond Road, scored 276 in the women's 140yd clout.

Mrs George McBurnie, Brisbane, Australia, pictured with her husband, was a recent visitor to Gisborne.
Formerly Joan Tamatea, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Tipene Tamatea, 40 Endcliffe Road, Mrs McBurnie spent three weeks in Gisborne on holiday with her parents.

Off on a three week visit to the United States of America as a guest of their Civil Air Patrol, which is the equivalent of New Zealand's A.T.C., is Under Officer Alan Marino.
