Ocean Drama

The drama of bloodshed on the high seas, a stolen yacht sailing under a false name, and the two men and a boy aboard her, rivetted the attention of New Zealanders last month as the freighter Tongariro steamed at full speed for Doubtless Bay.

The freighter, in response to a mayday signal, had taken the yacht's occupants aboard. One of them, the boy's father, was seriously injured with stomach wounds.

Northland Photo News photographer Peter Hoggard was on hand when the men were brought ashore.
