Hori's Page

The event that year was from the Tolaga Inn to Whangara and return, and the winner was Neil Robinson, the well known international rider.

Owing to members of the family leaving the district the race was abandoned temporarily until "Hori" returned from Wellington last year.

This year the race has been revived and the event will be from the Tolaga Inn to Tokomaru Bay and return.

A colts' race, from Mangatuna and return, will also be run.

Top riders from the Dominion are hoping to take part.

Additional prizes for both races are to be donated.

The family is to donate a suitable Maori carved shield for the 1968 event.

The 1967 race is to take place on Saturday, August 12.

A picture of the past. To span the Uawa river was the steel and wooden structure to be destroyed by the 1916 flood. The tallest building was the private boarding hotel and the next tallest is the bank which still stands.
