Changing Face

The new extension to the City Council building in Fitzherbert Street is progressing steadily. When completed it will ease congestion in the engineering and office departments, and will have an outward appearance matching that of the existing building.

Well on the way to completion is the two-storey classroom block at the Boys' High School, which is being built from concrete and brick as an extension of the existing two-storey wing.

Gisborne Transport's handsome new premises in lower Customhouse Street, adjacent to Watties bulk store, and opposite the previous establishment on the corner of Materoa Street. This building, which was damaged in the 1966 earthquake, is at present being demolished.
