The development plan for the Gisborne foreshore, as seen by Mr H. A. Turbott, and presented in booklet form by the City Council, was the subject of an address by Mr Turbott himself in the Social Credit Hall.
With the benefit of slides and plans Mr Turbott explained in detail the outlay of his development scheme.

The runner-up of the New Zealand Bride of the Year contest, Miss Jennifer Salmon, was given two savings accounts by the Bank of New Zealand as part of their recent savings campaign. The accounts were home lay-by and special purpose and presenting the pass-books is Mr L. A. Johnston, B.N.Z.manager.

The annual Rotary oratory contest for boys resulted in a win for Philip Hocquard of Edmund Campion College. Simon Morley (Lytton) and Robert Dobson (Boys' High) were the other two contestants. The subject was "That it is in New Zealand's ultimate interest for Great Britain to join the European Economic Community.

Jaycees were on the job again on Saturday July 1, when they planted an area with young pine trees for ultimate sale as Christmas trees. Seen here spading holes for the plants are Ted Mehrtens, Robert Moffat, Peter Hutchins and Mike Omer as other Jaycees prepare the ground.
