New Fishing Vessel

Designed for purse-seine netting, as well as trawling, the new Watties Canneries fishing vessel was commissioned recently. The new boat, named Kaiti, brings the company's fishing fleet to five in number.

The vessel is 71 feet long, has a beam of 20 feet, and has a nine foot draught.

Putting out for a week at a time the ship and crew are able to travel extensively about the prolific waters of the East Coast reaping the harvest of the sea.

Ken Walters went along on the shake-down cruise and took these pictures showing life on board.

Crew members on the cruise are Barry Aspden, Geonge Jolley, Des Schroder, Sven Hjorth (skipper), and Con Staples.
